The owners of this large Surrey property wished to update their driveway and front garden into a stunning, inviting entrance. Creating a welcoming first impression to their busy family home. The existing entrance had been in poor repair and did not offer an approach that the house deserved. The planting was previously uninspiring and without seasonality. Belonging to a busy family with teenage children, meant there was constant activity to and from the house, with many visitors so it was important that
the new gardens offered an all important smart first impression.
Hard landscaping materials were chosen to compliment and reflect the architecture of the property. Large planters containing topiary flank the front door echo the style of planting through the garden whilst brick edging delineate the hard and soft scape of the space. Pale coloured gravel for the drive surface lifts the space, generating a smart and refreshing first impression to visitors.
The planting was revitalised to include a framework of smart, architectural topiary accented with the light airy feel of evergreen perennials and bulbs that would thrive in the North east facing site, affording wonderful year round seasonal interest. The textural shapes of the upright yew cones ensure strong accents through the softer, lower planting, giving all important structure and interest.
The garden now ensures a practical space for the family’s busy lifestyle as well as truly reflecting the style and grandeur of the property. The drive space is now suitable for multiple cars whilst the turning circle allows easy manoeuvrability on a day to day basis. Seasonal planting continues through the space with a multi stemmed witch hazel forming the centre piece as you enter underplanted with hummocks of evergreen shrubs.
