English Country Garden

Working with the existing strong, symmetrical hard landscaping, the bones of the garden was already present in its’ layout. The owners wished to refresh the planting scheme to ensure strong forms and lines in keeping with the parterre layout. Low hedges remained whilst the centrally placed topiary cones continue the formality of the design. Lower lavender planting softened the edges around the central ornamental fruit tree and create a wonderful fragrant path through the garden. A traditional, English style design now sits comfortably with the house.

Swathes of softer plants including some of the owners favourites, balance the view. Strong blues, softer violets interspersed with white tones were chosen through the planting. Spring bulbs aid the garden’s seasonal display which are kept through the latter months so their structural form can continue to be enjoyed.

The garden now ensures a cohesive balanced outlook from the main rooms in the house and take advantage of the warm, southerly aspect. The layout encourages you to explore the gardens beyond, guiding you through more fragrant planting to the more open aspect of the formal lawns.
